Main Competitive Examination

The main competitive examination ("Concours général")

The main competitive examination is the primary admissions pathway to La Fémis's seven core departments. It selects students into a four-year full-time programme leading to the school's main diploma.

Eligibility

  • Be aged under 27 on January 1 of the application year (with possible extension under specific conditions);
  • Hold at least a Bac+2 degree or equivalent (e.g. DUT, BTS, second-year university);
  • French language proficiency at C1 level.

Selection process — three rounds

  1. Round 1 — Written test: critical analysis of a short film extract, plus general culture questions. Held in regional examination centres across France.
  2. Round 2 — Creative dossier: candidates submit a creative file specific to their chosen department (screenplay, photographic series, soundscape, etc.).
  3. Round 3 — Oral interview: panel interview with a jury of professionals, evaluating artistic motivation, project vision and personality.
