Research at La Fémis
La Fémis is a partner of the PSL University consortium and contributes to the SACRe doctoral programme, a unique practice-based PhD pathway dedicated to artists, filmmakers and creative researchers.
Research areas
- Aesthetics and theory of moving images — narrative forms, documentary, experimental cinema, virtual production;
- Sound and image technology — recording, sound design, post-production workflows, immersive audio;
- Industry and creative practice — production economics, distribution models, public policy in audiovisual media;
- History of cinema — French and international cinema, archival research, restoration.
Publications and events
Researchers based at La Fémis publish in peer-reviewed journals, contribute to international conferences and collaborate with cultural institutions such as the Cinémathèque française, the BFI and the Locarno Film Festival's industry programmes.
Doctoral applications
The SACRe PhD admissions process opens annually in the spring. Candidates must submit a creative project proposal and follow a dedicated selection procedure jointly with PSL University.
